senior citizens to quadruple by 2050

The senior citizen population in India is likely to explode four times than the current figures by 2050. This is the finding of the US census Bureau.By 2050 India would rank the most populous country in the world and push China to the second place. The projected Indian population would be 1.65 billion and that of China would be 1.3 billion by 2050.India will have over 250 million people over the age of 65 years.children per woman is plummetting down wards.But on the other hand proportion of elderly population is rising at a faster pace.Natural corollary is an aging population.It is reported that in India the average age of child bearing has dropped from 29.4 to 26.8 in the last 30 years.This explains about the decline in fertility rate.On the other hand better health care has increased life expectancy.By 2050 it is believed every third person wil be above the age of 65.The number of people above the age of 80 years is increasing at 4 % per year.By 2050 every fifth person will be above the age of 80 years.The decline in children and increase in elderly population is expected to have far reaching effects on family ties.
