Tamil's hoary past and the Sumerian connection

The Sumerians were believed to have developed world's first writing system 5000 years ago. They were considered as the earliest urban civilisation of South Mesopotamia. They were the first to develop the cuneiform scripts. Cuneiform script strokes were wedge shaped .Earliest Mesopotamian and Persian scripts were known to be cuneiform. Those scripts were pictographic and resembled natural objects. It is believed that the Babylonians further developed the writing system invented by the Sumerians.Mesopotamia is the modern day Iraq.Initially historians could not decipher this writing system. It was first believed the language was invented and used for an unknown tongue. Finally excavators and historians confirmed the existence of a civilisation and language called Sumerian.

Excavations in Harappa and Mohanjodaro (in Pakistan now) confirmed the existence of a civilisation which is older to Mesopotamian. Some of the Indus valley objects were later found in Mesopotamia also. There seemed to be some connection between the two cultures.Research scholars found that the Harappan inscriptions were ancient Tamil. A pictographic script found in South Arcot ,in Tamil Nadu was similar to the one found at Indus Valley.A team of marine diver archaeologists from India’s National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in March 1991,identified a U shaped structure at Tarangambadi-Poompuhar coast in Tamil Nadu near Nagapattinam. It was estimated by them that the object would have been submerged in 9000 BCE,that is roughly about 11000 years before the present time. Thus this object is 6000 years older than the Mesopotomian architecture, which is believed to be dated 3000 BCE.

A team of researchers claim Sumerian is Tamil of the first Sangam. There were three Tamil sangams (Acadamies). The earliest Tamil sangam used primitive Tamil. These Tamil Sangams were asssemblies of Tamil scholars and poets. It is believed the first Tamil Sangam(Academy) functioned at Madurai. The reference is not to the the present Madurai.Present Madurai is just a nominal remainder of the old Ten Madurai(South Madurai). It is believed the old Madurai was submerged in sea .This Tamil sangam is believed to have existed for 4400 years. The Tamil of the first Sangam was very primitive and Archaic. Researchers now believe Sumerian is nothing but the Archaic Tamil of the first Sangam and Sumerian is called by these pundits as SumeroTamil. The begining of the first Sangam is estimated to be 9000 BC by historians. When a Tsunami kind of deluge submerged Ten Madurai, the capital was shifted to Kapatapuram. The Second Tamil Sangam functioned at Kapatapuram. This sangam lasted for 3700 years. This city was also submerged in sea. There is a reference to a city called Kapatapuram in Ramayana and Arthasasthra .The third sangam is believed to have existed in the present day Madurai and lasted for 1850 years. The second and third sangams were patronised by the Pandian kings. Some legends about the Tamil academies suggest that the first two sangams were held in the submerged 'kumari kandam' known as lemuria continent .

The British Museum has a department called 'Egyptian & Assyrian Antiquities'.Scholars of this department of the British Museum contended that Mesopotamia was civilized by a migration from India.J.V.Kinnier Wilson(1986) claimed that the Harappans and Sumerians were in fact the same people, that the Sumerians were in fact INDO-SUMERIANS,a small group of people who probably separated from the parent stock, the Harappans, settled in Sumeria and began to develop independently."Dr.Loganathan of Malaysia says emphatically "Sumerian IS Archaic Tamil ".Dr.Lognathan has quoted extensively to prove the Tamil character of Sumerian.

 Examples by Dr.Loganathan

"1.Sumerian Text in Archiac Tamil (in English script)
 uru.tus lu-ka na-ab-ta-bal-e-de si-du-un
 si-du-un si-me-si-ib-be-e-ne

 English meaning
Do not transgress people's dwelling places
Go away! Go away! -- they will say to you

SumeroTamil text in modern Tamil script

 ஊருதுஞ்சு உளு.அக நா ஆப்த பால்யிடே
 செலிடூஉன் செலிடூஉன் சீம்மே செப்பினே

 2. ka-gal-a-be de mu-ni-in-dal (Sumerian Text in Archaic Tamil -English script)

 English meaning
Its grand entrance you have reduced to ashes
Or it could be interpreted like this
kaakaLLabee tii munnin taL meaning -
Its grand gate (you) have thrown into fire

SumeroTamil text in modern Tamil script
 காய்கள்ளப்பே தீ முன்னின் தள் "

 (Reference : https://sites.google.com/site/sumeriantamil/indian-culture-sumerian-beginnings )

Dr.Loganathan also says Siva, Thirumaal and Durga are Dravidian gods worshiped by the Sumerians.(Reference http://arutkural.tripod.com/sumstudies/sum-dra-cul.html) He also opines historians and archaeologists are gradually accepting the fact that Sumerian is Archaic Tamil. But Dr.Loganathan emphatically feels Sumerian is the Tamil of the first Tamil Sangam.

 (Ref : http://www.heritagewiki.org/index.php?title=Sumerian:TAMIL_of_the_First_CaGkam )

Dr.Loganathan has gone one step ahead and says Rigkrit the language of Rigveda is another variant of Sumerian, the Archaic Tamil and Sanskrit evolved from Rigkrit. The core of Dr.Loganathan's theory is Tamil is the oldest living language in this world and Tamil is the language used by the Indus civilization and even the Sumerians. However many western academics debunk the claims of Dr.Loganathan.But they agree to the Tamil sunken continent theory, which could have predated Sumerian civilisation. But it must be admitted that there has been no substantial refutal to Dr.Loganathan's SumeroTamil theory.

"A Dictionary Project of the Government of Tamil Nadu (the Government of South India) published the following Timeline for the History of the Tamil people.

200 000 to 50 000 BC: Evolution of the Tamil and their Language
50 000 BC: Kumari Kandam Civilization
16 000 BC: Kumari Kandam Submerged
6087 BC: Second Tamil Kingdom established
1780 BC: Third Tamil Kingdom established

Scientists have acknowledged that the language, the people, the culture and the literature are some of the oldest to be found on earth - anywhere.
 A Wikipedia snippet says:
Tamil Nadu's history dates back to pre-historic times. Archaeological evidence points to this area being one of the longest continuous habitations in India. In Adichanallur, 24 km (15 mi) from Tirunelveli, archaeologists from the Archaeological Survey of India unearthed 169 clay urns containing human skulls, skeletons and bones, plus husks and grains of rice, charred rice and Neolithic celts, giving evidence confirming them to be of the Neolithic period, 3800 years ago "

"Tamil Nadu is also the home of Jainism a Religion that is of unknown and mysterious origins of which some rumor it was carried down from the pre-flood days."
 (Ref : http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread678086/pg1)

Read what BBC says about the 9000 year old city found off the coast of India (In Tamilnadu -near Poompuhar) " The remains of what has been described as a huge lost city may force historians and archaeologists to radically reconsider their view of ancient human history. Marine scientists say archaeological remains discovered 36 metres (120 feet) underwater in the Gulf of Cambay off the western coast of India could be over 9,000 years old.The vast city - which is five miles long and two miles wide - is believed to predate the oldest known remains in the subcontinent by more than 5,000 years. "

"Author and film-maker Graham Hancock - who has written extensively on the uncovering of ancient civilisations - told BBC News Online that the evidence was compelling: "

"This, Mr Hancock told BBC News Online, could have massive repercussions for our view of the ancient world. There's a huge chronological problem in this discovery. It means that the whole model of the origins of civilisation with which archaeologists have been working will have to be remade from scratch," he said.

"However, archaeologist Justin Morris from the British Museum said more work would need to be undertaken before the site could be categorically said to belong to a 9,000 year old civilisation. " "It is believed that the area was submerged as ice caps melted at the end of the last ice age 9-10,000 years ago "
" The Indian Minister for Human Resources and ocean development said a group had been formed to oversee further studies in the area."We have to find out what happened then ... where and how this civilisation vanished," he said. (Ref :-http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/1768109.stm)

From the foregoing it is very clear that the day is not far off for the whole world to acknowledge that Tamil is the oldest living language of the world and all other languages of the world have evolved from it . உலகின் மூத்த குடி தமிழ் குடி என்பது அனைவரும் ஏற்கும் காலம் வெகு தொலைவில் இல்லை .

  2. Excellent post.I could see the efforts you have taken to collect facts from various sources and present it cogently.well done. With so much facilities
available in these days, to document facts and events, most of us know,at the best, information's and details about our parents, grand parents, and great
grand parents. At the maximum,we have information's about 3 past generations of us.Beyond that most of us have no information's.While doing death rites for
our parents,it is customary for the priest to ask for the names of our forefathers.I have seen many of us fumbling and not able to say the names of our grand parents
beyond 2 or 3 generations. The priest would then say ' தெரிந்த பெயர்,தெரியாத பெயர் '. In this background,I feel collecting data, records and information's about a civilisation that existed 11000 years ago would be an herculean task for the historians and archeologists .But it must be documented for the benefit of the posterity. The future generation should know about the great Tamil civilisation that lived 11000 year ago, world's oldest and at the same time had unparalleled skills and expertise in all known fields.

  4. First Tamil sangam all the literature is lost. Matsya avathar & Noah's Ark the same. As per Srimad Bhagavatham, Sathyavratha Manu was a dravida king moved from south to north with the vedas and saptha rishis. It is found that Sumerian language is Tamil of first sanga. There is a possibility that first Sanga literature could be in Sumeria. (The grammar followed in the first sangam was agattiyam. The poems composed were Paripaadal, mudunarai, mudukurugu, kalariyavirai. All lost). Whatever is found in Sumeria can be proven as these missing poems.http://glakshmis.blogspot.in/2013/04/which-is-oldest-language-alive-till.html

  5. Thanks for your input. This is a new insight . I wish historians and archeologists establish it beyond any uncertainty that Tamil is World's greatest and oldest language.

  8. Thank you for bringing the truth out.I'm proud being a Tamilian.Sir Ulagan, You hv taken a great effort to do the research on the Sumerian Civilization but I sure You might hv known more Information then what U hv publish or not publish yet.I do agree with you Sumerians are actually Tamilians.Sir when we accept this theory,we hv to find out What is the Origin of Tamilians?Because In Sumerian text describes about The 3 Main Characters.1st one is The Man Symbol of Star(Rightfull Prince),2nd One is The Man Symbol of Cresant(Also Prince, a Great Genius who can dismantle atom and reconstruct the atoms elsewhere.the man responsible for creating the matter and the earth)And also their father Anunaki who ordered his 2nd son the man Symbol of Cresant to create a world for humans to evoluve. So to make it short the 1st one we can call Lord Krishna(Stat),The 2nd one we call Lord Siva(cresant). And it also describes that they come to the world and go from the world at their own will by flying Machine from Space(UFO)So based on this Sumerian story Who are the Tamilians, are they the desendants of the Aliens?

  9. Enheduanna's Hymns composed in 2300BC. Yet Hindu scriptures like Samhita prose (roughly dated 1100 BC to 800 BC), Brahmana prose (roughly 900 BC to 600 BC).

Sumerians migrated to India and bringing in their ancient practise and beliefs.

  11. By the time the world acknowledges, No one will be talking Tamil. As such I mean there will be a new language called as Tanglish. Tamil will probably be like sanskrit. Only in literature form & not in colloquial usage.

  12. Thank you for your comments. But I feel one should not equate the present status of Sanskrit with Tamil . Number of Sanskrit speakers are dwindling over the years, where as there is a constant increase in the number of speakers of Tamil. Thanks to the Sri Lankan Diaspora. Tamil is now widely spoken all over the world by a sizable number of Tamil population. I agree with you in one respect. Tanglish usage is on the rise .But the most heartening fact is that simultaneously there is another group who talk in chaste Tamil and coin new words at regular intervals and have given tremendous contribution to Tamil vocabulary . As long as such persons and groups are active Tamil will always be a vibrant language. I don't think any other language other than English has kept pace with modern science and technology to coin new words. Most other Indian languages transliterate scientific and technical terms, while there is an equivalent Tamil term for most of the scientific and technical words. There are many stages before a language becomes extinct. Don't worry. Tamil will never ever reach that stage. Tamil as a language will only improve in coming years and it would not be a wonder if more and more people world over start learning Tamil out of their curiosity for the rich heritage of the language.

  13. There is the work of Gene Matlock in this regard, a close relationship is between Tamil and Sumrrian, both languages and peoples. West says it is a hoax which it isn't and deeper research will throw more knowledge to comprehend these civilizations.
