Come on play my child

Come on play my child ! you ..
never cease playing child !
Play with each other child ! never..
chide another kid, child !

Like a little sparrow- you
rollick and fly child !
Seeing colouful birds -you
feel raphsodic child  !

Hens peck and rove - go
with them, play child !
Crows attempt forays -be
empathic to them child !

Cows effuse milk - they
are  beneficial child !
Dogs  wag tail - they
are friends of mankind child !

Horses  drag carts - bullocks
plough paddy fields -sheep's
look upon us for living -all
must be supported child !

Get up early morning, study -then
sing songs that diffuse warmth
Whole evening relish playing -make
this a habit child !

Do not tell lies child ! never
indulge in backbiting child !
God is with you child  - never
will evil strike you child !

Seeing heinous persons -never
get scared child !
Thrash and trample them child !
Spit on their face child !

Even when adversity is so near -we
must not be dismayed child !
Merciful God is there -hardships
would  go away child !

Sloth is harmful child -never
disobey mother's counsel child !
A child who wails is hampered -you
fight with fortitude child !

Venerate Tamil Nadu -as
your mother land child !
Sweetest among  honey is -our
nation of luminaries child !

Tamil words are the loftiest
Learn them with veneration child !
Riches is abundant in Hindustan
Extol its glory daily  child !

At north is Himalayas child !
At south is the cape point child !
You see big oceans
on east and west child !

This nation has sacred scriptures  - good
crusaders are born in this nation child !
Unblemished Hindustan -revere
it as divine, child !

There are no castes child ! - talking
about caste superiority, inferiority is a sin !
Justice, high intellect, education-love
in abundance whoever possess is superior

Show love to living beings  -realise
God is true !
A brave heart strong as diamond is required
This is the way of life child !

  1. Excellent . There are very few translations of Bharthi's poems in English .This one is by far the best and close to the original . The first two lines translation is exceptional .You have understood what Mahakavi meant by 'odi vilayadu ' ,he just wanted the child to play and not run . In the second line the poet meant the child should never stop playing.you have conveyed that appropriately. Going for verbatim translation I have seen the line translated as 'don't be idle ' or 'don't be lazy' in some of the translations .
